► Hunter of the Day ◄***Vitani sauntered down to the hunting grounds, the earth dry and cracked beneath her worn down paws. She glanced back, pleased to see Nyarai following her lead. They stopped at the edge of a small tree, and Vitani noted a heard of wildabeest in the distance. She flicked her tail across Nyarai's mouth as a signal to be quiet, and leaned down so the creatures wouldn't hear.
"Think of hunting as feeding the pride," she whispered. "Which it is. Think of the cubs we have in the Pridelands, and their vulnerability. We need to feed them so they stay strong and healthy."
Vitani glanced back at the herd; they weren't moving, simply grazing on the short, stubby grasses. That was good. They would be easy to hunt, all in a bunch like that. The hard part was focusing on the wildebeest you decided to catch; if you got distracted, you could ruin dinner.***

After getting permission from Kovu to have Vitani assist her in hunting, Nyarai followed the lioness towards the hunting grounds. The area looked as if it hadn’t had water in a while, with all the earth dry and cracked. Some grass was there, slowly being munched on by a heard of wildebeest nearby. As the two of them approached them Vitani stopped, and before Nyarai could ask the other lioness’s tail was in her face. Taking it as a sign to be quiet (something Nyarai did quite well), she followed her lead and leaned down. This was about the only part of hunting that she was good at; sneaking around was easy for someone who did it all the time.
Nyarai patiently listened as Vitani talked about the importance of hunting. All of it was stuff that Nyarai had heard before; it’s for the pride, think of the cubs, etc. etc. That was why she was so nervous about it; if she screwed up, it could seriously hurt the pride. Sure, they weren’t going to starve if she messed up, but it would hurt the food supply in the long run when they would become dependant on her hunting. Also, if a lioness couldn’t hunt, what use were they to the pride? She didn’t want to know what would happen if she was to become useless.
When Vitani glanced over at the herd, so did Nyarai. Not sure what else to do, Nyarai tried to remember the set up for stalking the prey. Getting as low to the ground as she could without touching it, she made sure to be as invisible as possible to the prey. She set her eyes on the closest wildebeest to their location. Then…she just stood there. Her paws shifted a little bit so she could used to the dirt and therefore be able to figure out how to walk quietly, but she didn’t actually move from that spot.
”Okay then, now what should I do?” she asked Vitani, in a whisper (which was not much different from her normal voice really).
