► Something of the Something because idk yet ◄***Riora froze as Valerius told his story in a series of hisses and snarls, and a clearly agitated tone. His mother killing his family..Having a cub with another lion..Valerius himself killing their offspring. It send shivers down her spine, prompting her to lurch right there and then. But of course, she didn't. She couldnt; how would it be possible? Valerius was her own brother, and she could never forget that. But she couldn't seem to shake his monstrous past from her mind...Now she knew. Now she knew everything, and felt a small bird of relief escape from her chest that Kovu had shown up at the right time, but a weight of dread still rest on her shoulders. Near the end he calmed down, fur lying flat and eyes returning to their usually placid state. Riora remained frozen in place, gaping at Valerius. What...what...
She shook her head slowly and led Valerius farther and farther from the Outlands, the weight of dread still laying heavily on her heart. She could still barely believe what Valerius had told them, right there and then, without any qualms whatsoever. When they were past the bridge by the Great River, she paused and turned to Valerius silently. "I never knew..." she whispered. "I never knew...Why didn't you ever tell me, Valerius?!" she said, agitated. Did he not trust her enough to keep it away from who he might not want to know? "Don't you trust me? I would have understood! I'd always be there!" Riora was trembling, brows furrowed in a mixture of emotions. She sighed and unraveled herself, letting everything lie except for quiet acceptance. "I am always there," she said finally. "Always and always."***

Valerius stared at his paws as he slowly walked towards the Pridelands. The rain had slowed and then stopped, everything already beginning to dry off. His fur stood up; he was quite obviously uncomfortable, upset.
He listened to Riora speak, saying nothing. He didn't know what to say. He felt numb. After holding in his past so long, he thought he would be relieved, but he wasn't. He felt exhausted, mentally and physically.
"I never knew...I never knew...Why didn't you ever tell me, Valerius?!"
[/i] How could she ask that? She had to realize why he could never tell her. Even though he wanted to, he'd been scared. And apparently, for good reason, because she sounded angry. How could she be angry at him?! At least she finally knew, like she wanted to. She finally knew the truth about the monster that he was. That's what he was, a monster. "Don't you trust me? I would have understood! I'd always be there!"[/i] Valerius had no idea what to say. What was there left to say? Of course he trusted her, but how was he supposed to know she would understand? Most of the lions wouldn't have...most would have shunned him from the Pridelands so quickly... "I am always there. Always and always."[/i] He tried to hold back his tears. He was strong, he was supposed to act it. He wouldn't cry, he refused. He knew she wouldn't always be there. After everyone in his life had left him, how could he ever believe her? But he wanted to, desperately. "You don't know how hard it is, Riora. You didn't have to watch your own mother kill your family. You didn't stay with your brother, watching him die. You didn't...you didn't kill your own sister,"[/b] he choked out. How could she possibly begin to understand? *Status: Completed *Words: 295 *Involved: Riora *Other: none [/size][/blockquote][/blockquote] [/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

► Something of the Something because idk yet ◄***"You don't know how hard it is, Riora. You didn't have to watch your own mother kill your family. You didn't stay with your brother, watching him die. You didn't...you didn't kill your own sister." Valerius looked at her, eyes seeming to brim with tears. Riora shook her head and pressed against him as the clouds gathered once more and silent drops of rain began to fall, dotting their pelts with wet marks. She didn't do any of those things...But she was his sister. She may not have understood what it felt for those things to happen, to go through all of that...but she did understand, at least a little of what Valerius was feeling. And she wouldn't betray him...never.
"But it's over now," she said, looking out into the Pridelands that they called their home, watching a flock of birds take flight into the sky, a herd of zebra galloping away with a cloud of dust behind them, a lioness dab at the water in the waterhole in hopes of catching a fish. "It's over now," she repeated. "You're home. You don't have to live that way anymore. You can live like a proud and fierce Pridelander...Valerius, leave all that behind," Riora said, looking into Valerius's eyes. Although he had never told anyone of his past up until now, she knew it weighted him with every step, every move he made. Everything made sense now; why he woke up so early, slept so restlessly, hid his eyes behind a shield of no emotion. And yet...he seemed as if that would never go away.
Leave it behind! she asked silently in her mind, hoping that Valerius would somehow be able to listen. He didn't have to remember any of that anymore! He was free! He was prince of the Pridelands! Everyone accepted him, no matter his past...so why should he live in a shadow?***

Valerius felt his sister move closer, pushing against him, offering him warmth again. Just like she had in the Outlands. Just like she always had, whenever he was having a bad day. She HAD always been there, it was true. But Valerius wasn't a logical thinker when he was upset, he never had been.
"But it's over now, it's over now. You're home. You don't have to live that way anymore. You can live like a proud and fierce Pridelander...Valerius, leave all that behind."
[/i] Riora looked out at the Pridelands while saying that, all the living things around them. Those they hunted and those that they were comrades with. He shook his head. He'd never be a Pridelander. "It's not over, it'll never be over, and you know that as well as I do, Riora."[/b] He could feel himself getting more and more upset and angry and too many other emotions to even begin to describe them. He wanted to just give in, accept everything, be a normal Pridelander. But he knew that couldn't happen, he knew he wasn't like that. "Can you even imagine what would happen if the other Pridelanders knew what happened? If they knew what their prince did in his old pride? Ughck. Prince. I'm not even their prince, not a real one."[/b] He wanted to just leave. He knew that if the Pridelanders knew his past, they wouldn't all be so accepting like Riora. And he knew he shouldn't take that fact out on her, but he couldn't help it, at least that's what he told himself. He'd be considered a monster, a freak in the Pridelands, and a wussy, a stupid pridelander prince in the Outlands. He didn't know where to go anymore. He didn't want to face his 'family' right now. What if Riora was lying? What if she was planning to tell them? *Status: Completed *Words: 304 *Involved: Riora *Other: none [/size][/blockquote][/blockquote] [/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

► Something of the Something because idk yet ◄*** "It's not over, it'll never be over, and you know that as well as I do, Riora."
It is! Riora yowled in her mind. It is over! You don't have to live this way anymore! Why didn't he understand!? What could possibly happen? He lived in a Pride now, one that would protect him if anything went wrong. He had a real family now, one that loves and supports him more than anyone could.
"Can you even imagine what would happen if the other Pridelanders knew what happened? If they knew what their prince did in his old pride? Ughck. Prince. I'm not even their prince, not a real one."
Riora wanted to snarl at him, making him believe somehow that none of that is true. It's not true! None of it! What did he think they would do? Drive him out? He didn't do anything! He acted out of everything that had happened to him! What could they possibly do?!
"What about Simba?" she challenged, trying to make Valerius see. "He killed Scar. And Kovu? He wasn't the king's son. But they're both respected and proud lions of the Pridelands. Why can't you be?!" She couldn't see why he did this. It was almost as if he wanted to be an outcast, seperate and alone. But she knew he didn't. Then what?!
"The past is just that! The past!"***
