Werevu sat at the edge of the great river, looking down disdainfully at the rushing waters. The Outlanders had found a safe strip of land to cross, but of course the Pridelanders were too stupid to see it in plain sight. They'd probably cross the way of the alligators, getting them killed all the same. Maybe they'd drown before he could lead the ambush, he thought, amused. He looked across the gleaming land, light washing over it like a sparkling bath. How ugly. But it'd all be theirs, one day, yes, theirs. Theirs. Haha. How pathetic.
But then there was Malika and her little rat, Bakari to think about. They'd be a heap of trouble, no doubt, interferring with his plans. But then again, he had better support from the Outlanders than they did. Teferi, he was sure, would be easy to deal with. Malika, too. Bakari, perhaps he could use to his advantage. Train to kill. Yes, that would suit his fancy.

Kamau stalked along, yet another chunk of meat in her mouth. She was a lucky hunter lately! Or the gazelles were just dumb enough to wander away from the Pridelands. The one she had caught was small, but it would suffice for energy enough to kill some lazy Pridelanders. Her icy blues scanned the riverbank, and Werevu was the only one she saw. She tried not to smile.
Plop. The meat was dropped by his paws. "Hello, Werevu. Are you ready to take back what's our's?" A mischievous smirk spread itself across her maw and a sparkle graced her eyes as she sat down beside him, staring off into the distance and squinting. Clear so far. Her long silvery claws dug into the moist ground and she felt the sun being soaked into the darkness of her fur. Kamau had a very 'friendly', prankster-like side to her, but in times of war, it manifested itself as cunning and cruelty. The lioness spoke again, softly, but with that conniving tone to her voice. "I have an idea for you."

Werevu glanced back and saw Kamau approach him, a large hunk of meat in her jaws. She was a good hunter, he decided, and a good follower as well. He wouldn't interfere with that just yet. He looked intently on her as she began to speak.
"Hello, Werevu. Are you ready to take back what's our's?"
Yes, he replied inwardly. He was itching to get the fight over with, and finally have rule over both the Outlands and the Pridelands. He couldn't help but notice, however, that a queer smile had found itself on her face and a glint in her eye. He cocked his head, wondering what kind of thing she had come up with.
"I have an idea for you."
Oh? An idea, hm? Werevu let a small smirk creep across his jaws. This would be interesting, in the least, he decided, looking intently from one eye to the next. He opened his great jaws in a yawn and spoke.
"What idea is it, Kamau?" His voice took on a warm, friendly tone as if they were friends from cubhood. It would win her over even more, if that was possible, and help support him. He just hoped that others came.

"I have gone to the Pridelands and spoken with Vitani. I told her I missed her friendship and 'apologized.' Therefore, I have a slight advantage with the pride. She thinks I'm soft now that I've made amends with her, and I could try to get into Pride Rock if I speak with her and regain her trust. So if the bigshot king and queen or one of the cubs aren't going to fall into our ambush, I could get you in... and they would be lazy for eternity in the stars."
Kamau lowered her head and smirked, making it all the more devious, and then turned her head to the side, to look away from him and check the horizon. She still glanced over when she spoke, however. Her strange long eyelashes kept her lids low over those icy blues. "Sound like a plan?"
She turned her head to look Werevu in the eye again, but she kept her ears alert for rustling in the savanna grass.

Werevu looked at Kamau with thought. Her plan wasn't a bad one; in fact, he could weave it into his own plan to create something even better. He let a sly, twisted grin find itself on his face. He never thought of Kamau as a good thinker, or planner - but here she was, presenting a wonderful plan to him. One that would work.
"That could work," he said carefully. He wanted to make sure that Kamau would support his new idea; otherwise, it would fail. And he wouldn't take failure. "Let me make a suggestion. Perhaps you can go to the Pridelands and ask Vitani to be in her pride - that will keep all of the Pridelanders busy for a while. Meantime, I'll lead the Outlanders into the Pridelands and surround them, so when the dolts finally realize they're trapped," he finished with a smile, "they won't be able to do anything about it." Werevu looked around the clearing with disdain. "But we need more Outlanders than this."
He then looked into her eyes, almost hypnotizing her with his weapons of persuasion. "Kamau," he said, "could you gather up more Outlanders for the wonderful plan you gave me? I'm certain it will work - but with a little help."

The lioness fell into Werevu's eyes when he looked at her. She had to snap herself out of it, and to do so she sort of dug her claw into the opposite paw. Shaking her head, she lost herself in her thoughts for a second, the icy eyes going a little blank - although they gained a spark of fury-driven determination momentarily. It's not gonna happen, Kamau. There are more important things at hand than crushes, anyway. Think about those traitors. Think about what they did to your mother! And Jaali, do you want a good life for him?
The icy blues narrowed. Kamau glanced around to see if anyone had come. Nope, nobody. The sun was beginning to lower and melt orange into the grasslands in the distance.
"I can do that with a little help. You might want to try to speak to them again, maybe more will listen. After that, I'll need to go to the Pridelands and stay for the night if they allow me to 'cross over', so as to not seem suspicious. And we'll need a solid idea as to what time we'll start, but we'll have taken the Pridelands back in no time."
Check out the big brain on Hyena Girl! It was like she sat around her whole life thinking about how to do this. Actually, she probably had.
Kamau turned and began to pad away, back toward the Outlands. She stopped pensively, and slowly, almost bashfully turned her head to look at Werevu and softly offer a question. "Care to walk with me? Or are you staying here?"

► Creature of the Night ◄***Werevu sat, impressed, as she revealed the final plan to him. However, he was iffy on one subject; the support. Kamau insisted that he speak to them again, but the only supporters he had so far from them was one. Clearly, that wasn't going to work; Werevu, strong as he was, couldn't fight an entire pride and win. And he knew this. He looked at her expectantly, wondering if she could possibly help. Yes, she could...Very much. She could help him overthrow Malika and that idiot Teferi. The plan would work - with Kamau's help.
"Care to walk with me? Or are you staying here?"
The question jolted Werevu out of his thoughts and he pondered the question. Clearly, he wasn't going to stay here and watch the alligators thrash around in the mud, and he needed the trust that Kamau had for him to stay strong. "Of course," he replied, and began to walk side by side with her, all the while thinking of diferent strategies to do this. "Kamau, you wouldn't mind if you had my support while talking to the Outlanders again?" he asked, allowing a small glint in his eye to be seen. "After all, they'll listen more if you're up there with me. I'm afraid not all of them trust me quite so much." That much was true; he was sure he could win the Outlander's approval if Kamau showed up supporting him. She was popular with many of them, being friendly as she was. Unfortunately, Werevu himself didn't possess that quality, being rather cold and aloof to the pride. But in due time, in due time. He'd become the leader the Outlanders always wished for.***

Once she had confirmed that Werevu would accompany her, Kamau turned her head back to the front and dipped it low as she tried not to grin. She shook it off pretty fast and raised her neck again, looking at him with a glint in her eyes, too. Her mind grabbed frantically for the right words to say. "Yeah... yes, I'll help you." She averted her eyes for a moment to stare straight ahead at their Outlands, withered and haunting like a corpse of famine, thinking, and looked back at him. "You'd make a very good king. One with a straightforward approach to things is much more promising than a coward who waits. And you have no idea how long I've been waiting to dig my claws into those filthy Pridelanders."With this, Kamau shook her head. Behind her, her tail was flicking around, making little circles, swaying softly. Maybe they could talk the hyenas into following them! The lioness' mind wandered further into its depths. Maybe her little Jaali could be part of a royal family someday, in a land where there's enough food and water and sunshine, and no termites to pester them. Don't get your hopes up, her mind warned her.
