It was fairly early in the morning Kira was on the very edge of pride rock, the sun was just touching down. She looked at the outlands and memories of her cub hood came flooding into her mind. She remembered when she was little and most of the lioness would try and brainwash her and the other cubs "Remember Scar is the rightful king, Simba is the evil one" her mother would tell her.
Then she remembered Scar's death and what that did to some of the members of the pride. Kira was one of the few that wasn't torn up over the death, she knew scar was evil. Infact the only thing that kept her there that long was her mother.

Mandisa was awake. The sun was shining, it in itself was up, and so, she figured, so should she. It's well known that should she ever wake up when the sun's up, she will stay up, energy running through her small body. She'll spend a considerable time bouncing around away from the other lioness searching for someone else who is awake so early, someone like she is, and should she not find one she'll run right back into the sleeping chambers and pounce onto the first body she comes across, which of course gets her into some nice trouble.
Like, time to use that speed of hers and small size to go, go, go, hide.
But it's not bad, she doesn't think. She gets her own mixed reactions about things. Being in trouble doesn't faze her anymore. It's just another adventure, even if it's one that's discouraged by most. She did feel some sort of justification in her actions, in her subconscious mind, if that makes any sense. She didn't have any brothers or sisters (Excuse me, any living brothers or sisters). Who was she to play with? Didn't everyone owe her some time or something? No.
Mandisa didn't like to think about things very often, especially not about the brother and sister she's told she had, but whom just never lived. So she pushed it out of her mind, and forced herself to plaster a happy attitude about herself when she spotted a lioness by the name of Kira. The elder lioness was perched at the edge of Priderock, and, Mandisa hoped, wouldn't mind the company of a little cub.
Tail held high, Mandisa trotted over to Kira, keeping a safe distance from the edge so she wouldn't fall. She wasn't afraid of the elder lioness. She was really motherly and kind to Mandisa and the other cubs. Kira could easily be her favorite member of the pride, or very close to it.
"Hello Kira!" Mandisa said, her tail wishing back and forth. "How are you?"

Kira Kira turned to the sound of a small voice, she smiled slightly when she saw the little cub Mandisa. " Hello Mandisa" She told her, and looked back out at where the sun touches and where it don't. " I'm just remembering when I was cub, what it was like" She told her. She looked back into the den and seen her Chava was still sleeping. She got up and walked over to Mandisa. Sometimes she and Chava would just go walking in the morning, and talk about random things, mostly it was Chava wanting to know about her mothers cubhood. Kira looked pretty big compared to this small cub, she smiled at her once more, " Would you like to go for a walk with me?" She asked. And walked forward some, her tail low to the ground and relaxed. She placed her paws on the rocks leading down, she turned to look at Mandisa " You coming?"

"You're cubhood?" Mandisa question, her brown eyes widening in excitement. She had never cared to ask about anyone's cubhood before and the sudden thought of Kira's cubhood finally made her curious. "What was it like? Did you have any brothers or sister?" Briefly her mind flashed to all of her own misadventures that had landed her in considerable trouble from time to time. "Did you get in a lot of trouble?"
Mandisa stopped her questions as she watched Kira check that Chava was sleeping and at the lioness' next question, her paws felt like they were itching with excitement. Immediately, Mandisa stopped all of her questions into Kira's past and focused on the present. Kira was letting her go for a walk with her! And so early in the morning! I wonder what we'll see! Are the Zebras an birds still asleep? she thought as she bounced after Kira. I wonder if they are if we would be able to sneak up and scare them!
"Of course I want to come! I love walks! But will Chava mind? She won't be sad that she's not coming with us?"

Kira Kira chuckled at the young cubs questions, " No, I didn't have any brothers or sisters. I played with the other cubs in the pirde." She explained and went on to her next question, " Yes, I did get in alot of trouble. I was just like Chava, or she is just like I was. I always wanted to go to the pride lands, but my mother always caught me and that got me in the most trouble." She left out the part where the adult lions always tried to brain wash the other cubs about how Scar was the rightful king. She smiled, " No, she won't mind. She sleeps pretty late anyway." She told her and started walking off pride rock. She felt her paws go from the smooth rock to the rocky uneven earth. Kira always felt sorry for Mandisa she didn't have a mother to Kira's knowledge. The lioness that took her in died, she thought. Or at lest that's what she was told.

Mandisa soaked in Kira's words, trying to piece together exactly how she was as a cub. She started for a moment at the phrase 'I always wanted to go to the pride lands', but then remembered. Oh, that's right. Kira was an outlander her entire life... "I can't imagine you getting into any trouble Kira, you're so... Not like that?" she said, focusing on a different subject. The outlanders were scary, and Mandisa didn't ever want to think that kind-hearted Kira was ever one of them.
Mandisa let out a sigh of relief. "I'm glad she won't be mad." Her mind drifted back to Kira's past as and outlander and took a moment to consider the other cubs in the pride. There was Riora, Kovu and Kiara's daughter, Chara, Kira's daughter, and Keka, who patronage is unknown to her. She considered them all to be her friends, and very very important to her. She could never imagine leaving them.
"Was it hard to leave?" Mandisa asked, aware that she was being very, very vague. Was it? She knew that the Outlands was a horrible place, but still wasn't Kira friends with the other cubs? Wasn't it hard to leave your friends?

Kira Kira laughed again, " All cubs get into trouble." She told her. She kept walking the sun hitting her, warming her fur. " Well, as we got older we drifted apart, they became evil. I wasn't, so I was sort of the odd ball. The only thing keeping me there was my mother, and she fallowed Zira so I just left." She told her and found a rock under a tree, it was partly shady. She went and sat on the rock," Anything else you would like to know about the outlands and how it was when I grew up?" She asked. She didn't mind sharing stories with Mandisa. In fact Kira was considering adopting her, if she wanted Kira to be her mother of course.

Mandisa was relieved that there was nothing odd with her troublesome ways. It was normal - yay! "That's really sad." was all she could muster. She could understand but she couldn't at the same time. She was really to young still to understand how good and evil can change a lioness heart and effect friendships. All that she really understood was how lovely the day was starting to become and that she had some good friends to enjoy it with,
Kira's permission to ask more questions felt like a responsibility in a sense, and Mandisa's brown eyes widened in excitement.. Large, important. A millions questions flashed through her mind but before she could pick one out of the masses, they were all gone. Her mind was blank. "Is it true that you had to eat terminates?"
Of all she could have asked, about Scar and Zira, and the evil plot, Mandisa came up with Is it true that you had to eat termites? immediately, she was embarrassed and bowed her head, hoping that somehow, for some reason, Kira hadn't heard her.

Kira
Kira smiled at the Cub's question, " I never did, but some do. I just couldn't bring myself to eat bugs." She answered. She looked at the rising sun and back to Mandisa. " Anything else you want to know?" She asked. She expected her to ask questions about Zira,Scar, and the war, Chava did alot. If things kept going this well Kira was going to ask her if she wanted her as a mother, and Chava as a sister. She thought that Chava needed a sister, some one her own age that she called family. Of course the pride was her family but she needed someone she could call a sister.

Mandisa made a face. "I don't think I would have been able to either. I'm so lucky that I live in the Pridelands where we don't have to worry about that." she said. The rising sun was making her restless and she wanted to run all over the place and release some pent up energy. "Hmm, yes. I think so. Just two more, well three, maybe four." She paused to gather her thoughts. Mandisa didn't want to ask Kira too many questions so she wanted to boil them down to the fewest she possible could.
"Okay. Did you know Zira and Scar? Were they mean to you? Like, really, really mean? Did you know King Kovu well growing up - he was an Outlander too. What did you do during the war? Did you have to fight? When did you leave?" Mandisa asked, fixing her brown eyes on Kira in what she hoped was a serious manner. A flash of realization though, made it all disappear. "Oh no! That was more than two, or three, or four questions!"
In an instant, Mandisa didn't think that Kira would mind the extra few questions. Although she never liked to think about it, she imagined, at that moment, that Kira would be something like how her mother was, or would have been to her. And playing with the other cubs in the pride, she imagined that they were the brother and sister she lost. Would her brother have been anything like Chara? Or how about Keka? Would her sister have been the leader on their adventures or more of the worrier who was afraid of punishment and harm? It was sad to think about what could have been, so Mandisa chose not to. That was how she got through the day with the guilt that she was the one of her family to live.

Kira Kira laughed, " It's quite alright. Yes, I did know Zira and Scar. I was a cub like you when I met him right before he died. I don't remember if Scar was mean, but Zira wasn't the friendliest Lioness there was. Yes I was a teen Lioness when Kovu was born. I was already a pridelander before the war. I left when Kovu was a cub. Yes, I did fight in the war. I left because I found out I was carrying Chava and didn't want her to live the outsider life." She answered each of the cub's questions Kira took a deep breath, " Mandisa, would you like for me to adopt you? Would you like for me to become your mother and Chava your sister?" She asked the cub and purred slightly as the sun warmed her fur.
