Riora Riora sat in the den of Priderock, waiting for the sun to come up. It was still early in the morning; not even the birds have woken up yet. Everything was quiet, dark; And from this view, the Outlands looked gloomier than ever. She sighed and slumped down, creating a small cloud of dust that quickly settled. The other lions always took so long to get up. Riora quietly padded over to Valerius. She peered down at him; he was asleep. She prodded him in the side. "Valerius?" She poked him again, this time harder. "Valerius, wake up!" How could someone who woke up every thirty minutes be such a deep sleeper?

Valerius had been twitching slightly in his sleep. He was having another nightmare. This one was, like the many others, about his mother. He never remembered the specifics to his dreams, just her face. He never forgot her face no matter how hard he tried.
"Rajani...no..Amadi....Skuld...no..I never meant to...no.." He whispered in his sleep, obviously distressed. He jumped awake after being nudged by Riora. His fur was drenched in sweat from the nightmare. He was half grateful for being woken from it, and half annoyed that his already terrible sleep was cut even shorter. It was his sister though, how could he be annoyed? Although he felt a slight bitterness towards her because she was to be the leader of the Pridelands and Kovu paid more attention to her, she was still his sister. He hoped Riora wouldn't ask about what he had dreamed about; how could he explain it without explaining his past? He shivered, and tried to forget it. He didn't want to remember. He didn't want that burden. He blinked in the early morning darkness and looked over the Pridelands for a moment. His eyes lingered over the Outlands for a moment longer then they should have before he turned back to Riora, grinning at her. "Up for an adventure, sis?"

Riora Riora looked at Valerius strangely. He was acting pretty weird, and looked like he just ran across the savanna. His fur was practically drenched in sweat, and his eyes were wide. "Are you okay? You look...awful!" Riora asked. Whatever happened, it was over now. His fur was lying flat and he seemed more calm. Riora looked out of the den; The sun still wasn't up. It seemed like it wouldn't be for several hours. She considered Valerius's question. Of course she did! That's why she woke him up! "Let's go, before any of the other lions wake up!"

"Yeah...I'm fine, sis. Just a bad dream. Doesn't really matter." he answer, trying not to sound upset. It really didn't matter. The past was the past. He secretly wished he could just admit everything to her, everything about his old days, his old pride. He secretly wished she'd pry, that she'd want to know what his nightmare had been about. She told him everything, yet she knew so little about him. If she did know...how would she even react? Anger? Fear? Acceptance? Would she run off and tell daddy? Riora might be his adopted sister, but he was sure even she had limits to what she could be told. He scanned the horizon again, trying to think of somewhere they could go. They'd already thoroughly explored everywhere in the Pridelands. Duh, it was their home. The great river was pretty boring, and the Jungle...well...who cares about the Jungle? It's just a jungle. He'd never been there before but he couldn't imagine that it was all that great. It might be interesting to see where his adopted grandfather had lived for a while...but no. He was interested in something much more...dangerous. He thrived on danger and excitement, getting in trouble and getting attention. Even though his last trip to the Outlands hadn't gotten him any attention from Kovu, it didn't mean this one wouldn't. Most young lions hated getting in trouble from their beloved parents, but he was definitely different. Atleast getting in trouble meant that they cared, that somebody was noticing him. "How about the Outlands?" he said with a grin. There was a desperate, hungry look in his green orbs. He had to see more; he was like a druggie, addicted to the forbidden lands, even if they might kill him. He hoped his sister would be up for the trip, because this time he didn't want to go alone. Just like a druggie, he'd drag his family into his dangerous habits. But he knew it'd be worth it, the thrill of being somewhere he shouldn't be. It was closer to home than the Pridelands would ever be.

Riora Riora's eyes widened at the mention of the forbidden lands. The Outlands? Even as she thought it, a chill was sent down her spine. She shivered at the chance of adventure and danger, and her claws ached for something other than the soft, plushy grasses of the Pridelands. She peered over Valerius's head and stared at the dark shadow of land that the fearsome Outlanders lived. Suddenly, she felt a strange urge to go; and by the look in Valerius's eyes, he was itching to go even more. "Let's go," she whispered, careful not to wake any of the lionesses. She crept out of the den with Valerius on her tail and leered at him. "Don't worry, if anyone attacks us, I'll take care of you." She bounded ahead. " Little brother!"

Valerius grinned wider, his heart pounding at the prospect of entering the forbidden lands. And, the prospect of possibly running into Nuka again..."No...get that out of your head. Don't even think about that, you stupid little furball." He shook his head, pushing that out of his mind. He had to stay focused, he couldn't be stupid. Especially with his sister around. If anything happened to her, Kovu would kill him. "Let's go. Don't worry, if anyone attacks us, I'll take care of you. Little brother!"Valerius's tail twitched from side to side, smirking, as he pounced on Riora. He rolled off her, laughing, and bounding off towards the Outlands. "Little brother, eh? You don't even know when or where I was born." he said, snorting. It was true, she didn't know. She didn't know anything about him, he thought bitterly. But that was because he didn't tell her anything; that wasn't her fault, he reminded himself.
