► Princess of the Pridelands ◄*** "And you actually think I care about what Kovu thinks? Wow. Pridelanders are simple-minded."
Riora snarled at this and dug her claws into the hard, crackly earth at his words. Simple minded! Look at the pathetic scrap of fur that was talking! She knew Valerius was right in that he was jealous about Kovu; he could see his eyes flashing uncertainly. She bent down, poised to leap.
"And fighting is the only way to survive out here where parents turn against cubs in the blink of an eye. Why do I start fights? Because if I didn't I'd never be ready to take on my dad were he to show up ad then I'd have to go through hell again. Surely you wouldn't wish that on anyone?"
Riora's anger ebbed at the sound of those words, and she took another look at Jabali's scarred body and his shielded eyes, never quite looking at her own. She'd never known the pain those Outlanders have known; she'd never known what Jabali might have gone through. Suddenly, her urge to fight was gone as she looked at him once more. She glanced at Bakari; he seemed to be frozen in place, eyes staring at some distant point. In an instant, however, the sneer was back on his face and his claws were unsheathed. Riora shook her head; she may hate Bakari, but she couldn't fight Jabali now. She flicked her tail at Valerius. "Let's go," she whispered, turning away.***

"And you actually think I care about what Kovu thinks? Wow. Pridelanders are simple-minded."
"Yeah, I think you do care what Kovu thinks. I think you care an aweful lot what Kovu thinks."
[/b] Yeah, he was lying through his teeth. Who cares? Not like he hadn't lied about shit before and gotten away with it. Whether he was right or wrong, it really didn't matter. Bakari would be pissy either way. "And fighting is the only way to survive out here where parents turn against cubs in the blink of an eye. Why do I start fights? Because if I didn't I'd never be ready to take on my dad were he to show up ad then I'd have to go through hell again. Surely you wouldn't wish that on anyone?"Valerius snorted, his eyes flashing in anger, in disgust. So what? This Outlander scum was the only one with a hard past? Bullshit. "You think your life is oh so horrible? You're not the only one who didn't grow up with a lovely little family and a comfortable life."[/b] Valerius spat at him, his fur bristling. "My own mother killed my father, and my brother. Then she had a daughter with a loner. The future of the pride, right?"[/b] There was a manic look in Valerius's eye, that most would have found terrifying, menacing. I took her out far away from the pride. And I killed her."[/b] He bared his ivory white teeth; you'd never know from the clean-ness of them that they'd torn flesh before. Much less ripped flesh from bone, killing another lion. "So next time you assume we've all had it easy, next time you assume Pridelanders are weak, incapable of killing, think again. Because not all of use are such weaklings."[/b] His eyes returned to their normal look of uncaring, his voice becoming calmer. His fur went flat again. He'd told the truth. He'd confessed. He didn't feel much better though. What would Riora think? Would she tell Kovu? He turned to Riora; she looked calmer now, after hearing the Outlander's sob story. "Let's go."He saw the lioness, his sister, turn away to leave. Of course she'd want to leave as soon as things started to get interesting. He didn't want to be out here alone, though. That wouldn't be as fun. He turned to follow her, but not before throwing a glare towards Bakari and the other outlander. *Status: Completed *Words: 397 *Involved: Riora, Bakari, and Jabali *Other: late. I know. sorry.
