RioraRiora laid low, belly brushing against the floor, creeping into the Outlands. However much her brother liked it here, she still thought it was creepy, adventure or no. When she was safely behind an elephant bone, she straightened up and began to lick herself, dirt clinging to her fur like burrs. Yuck, she thought. The Outlands was so disgusting and prey-deprived. She would never know why Valerius liked it so much, but in the meantime it was a good subject for adventure. She shook herself off and glanced behind her, seeing Valerius lagging behind. "Hurry up, you slow shrimp," she joked.
She glanced at her surroundings. It was a gray and dismal place, true to its name. The sky was littered with gray, heavy clouds as if they were filled with dust waiting to fall. But looking at the cracked and barren ground, it was clear that there was hardly any, if any at all, rain in the Outlands. She noted a couple of Outland cubs playing a long way away, clearly oblivious to their presence. All the same, she shrank back into the shadows as she saw them. They were thinner and scrawnier than she, but still seemed to have the same cub-like playfulness in them.

♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Valerius followed his sister into the Outlands, much less cautious than she was. He knew he should be careful, but his multiple trips here had left him much less nervous than she probably was. He still felt that adrenaline rush, though, of being in this place.
"Hurry up, you slow shrimp."
He ignored her comment, noting the unapproving look of disgust on her face, and he twitched slightly. Maybe he shouldn't have taken her here, to this place he should have known she wouldn't like. Really, no true, self respecting Pridelander would like it here. It was the Outlands after all, hovering on the edge of their vision. The Pridelanders didn't want anything to do with this place. The edges of their land, their small little 'society'. He watched her lick the dirt from her fur, and he tried to hold back a snort. That wouldn't help very much; the dirt would be back in just a few moments anyway. The dirt was already sticking to his fur in large, matted sections. He didn't mind; they hid his scars, making him seem atleast somewhat normal, although unclean. He took in his surrounding, following her gaze to the playing Outlander cubs. They were tugging an elephant bone back and forth between them, having a good time. They were so skinny, but he knew they were most likely strong. He felt a pang of guilt; why should he be allowed to have fresh prey daily, brought back to him by the lionesses? After all the things he'd done, why should be deserve that? These were just innocent cubs, they probably had never hurt anyone. His eyes wandered to the sky, wondering again if it was a bad idea to come here. Along with the adrenaline rush this place gave him, it reminded him too much of his past. He knew he always said that. It reminded him of his past, his old home, his old family. But he was never more specific than that. He wished he could just tell someone everything that had happened. Maybe he could lighten up, then. Maybe he'd be able to carry on with his life if he could share just a little piece of his history with another person. The clouds looked low and heavy, carrying the burden of the universe. Or the burden of rain, whatever. Enough of all that deep stuff, he was here, in the Outlands, with his sister. He was on an adventure! He should be enjoying it while he could, before someone caught them. He thought that with absolute certainty, that somebody WOULD indeed catch them eventually. "So, sis...what do you think?" he asked, anticipating a negative response. But who knows, maybe she'd grow to tolerate the Outlands. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Riora
Riora stared at the cubs some more, entranced by the way their playfulness was intertwined with ferocious instincts and almost bloodthirsty desire to win. They were thin and scrawny, but lean, as if they had traded any extra fat for powerful muscle. They'd have to be strong, she decided, if they were to survive in this barren wasteland. She scanned the area again; nothing moving, except for the small rustle of bushes from the wind and, of course, the two cubs playing. She shook her head. This was no way for a young cub to grow, in the desolate shadows of the Outlands. But she had to wonder how Valerius grew up, then; he hardly opened up to anyone ever, and she wondered why. She pressed against him, offering some comfort from any dark memories he might have.
"So, sis...What do you think?"
Riora's eyes narrowed at the way his question was worded, almost as if he had been here before. Had he? She racked her mind for any times that he'd been suspiciously gone for a period of time, but her memories came up blank. No, he couldn't have. Why should he? She held her tail straight and wrinkled her nose. No, there would be no reason for her brother to come to this place when he had all that he could ever want in the Pridelands, with her and Kovu. She shook her head. What did she think of the Outlands?
"It's interesting," she answered truthfully. "Different than I expected...But interesting."

♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Valerius looked up at the sky again, noting that the clouds were gathering more quickly. Thunder boomed in the distance, and he saw a streak of lightning brighten the quickly darkening heavens. This would be the second occurence in such a short period of time that he'd be stuck out in a storm, nearly alone.
He felt Vitani press up against him, offering support. He shivered despite the added warmth, and twitched slightly. He pulled away. He didn't need her support. He didn't need her to protect him from anything. He was strong, he could take care of himself.
But that was a lie. He really wished he could stop pretending to be strong. He wished he could just tell her everything, drop his mask for a little while and let everything come pouring out. But he didn't want to burden her, he didn't want to give her that weight. Why would she even care, anyway? As soon as she found out his past, she'd be running off to tell Kovu. There it was again, his 'past'. That mysterious word he refused to elaborate on. And there he was again, contradicting himself. He constantly told himself he didn't care was Kovu thought, and then he'd suddenly worry about what Kovu thought.
He shivered again as raindrops began falling, creating dark drops on the dry, cracked earth. The rain was slow at first, but he knew it would pick up. That was how these storms always were. He wondered if Vitani would want to go home, or stay longer.
Valerius saw his sister shake something out of her head at his question, and wondered what she was thinking. "It's interesting. Different than I expected...But interesting."
He wondered what that meant. Interesting...he hated the word. What the hell did that mean? That could mean anything, good or bad. It was too vague.
"What were you expecting?"
He realized he was making it sound like he'd been here before, but he didn't care. Let her ask about it. He'd answer, truthfully, just like if she actually ASKED about his past.

Jabali The cub watched the others from a distance, his eyes gleaming darkly with a sorrow none should know so young. There was a pain reflected within those orbs darker than any other. But what coukd one expect? The young cub had lost everything, there was nothing left anymore. Just him and far his father would return. Slowly, the burnt orange cub walked toward them, his ears pressed against his skull, healthier than most of the outsider cubs because he didn't rely on the adults for food, he went into the pridelands when he needed it because the adults here never seemed to have food for themselves and he didn't belong to any of them. The bone-strewn ground crunched slightly beneath his pads as he kept moving forward, a scarred figure, his tassel lashing as if an anger had spread through his system. He didn't like others, especially not pridelanders. Pridelanders didn't even have a spine, they got scared over anything and as cubs did nothing for themselves. Basically, he was jealous that their lives were so comfortable and, as long as they were on his patch he wasn't going to let them invade happily. Don't do it... Aiedi, the female voice in his head pleaded, knowing that her attempts would be useless in this situation, he was always against the pridelanders and as Adbi and Lucan crept into his mind giving his many a foul idea she shrank back, almost silent, for she would never stop him now. Green eyes flashed dangerously as he stopped before the two cubs, a large brute for his age, muscles tensed and ivories bared. He didn't like intruders. Them being here was disrespectful, they weren't allowed here! No, pridelanders could not invade his haven. "What do you want, pridelanders?" he snarled, anger seeming to be all that resided within him at that moment. They would get it if they didn't have a good reason, they couldn't just invade his home with their coward ways. "Your kind aren't welcome here."

Riora
Riora shook her head as the rain began to fall and felt Valerius move away from her, beginning to shiver. She shivered herself and looked at him. Why was he so withdrawn? What had happened in the past that he'd never told anyone? What story was behind the scars he bore? She pushed against him again. "I wish you would just tell me," she murmured. "Instead of hiding in the shadows all the time...I would understand."
She sighed and looked up when a cub slinked out from the shadows, a menacing snarl on his face.
"What do you want, Pridelanders? Your kind isn't welcome here."
Riora bristled, shaken by her reverie. "What, lions aren't allowed here?" she retorted hotly. "Because the last time I checked, our kind was lion."
No matter the manner of her reply, she still didn't want a needless fight. It was the Outlander's territory, after all; she should get out while she and Valerius had the chance. But first she had to wipe that snarl right off this arrogant cub's face.

♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♣ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Valerius looked away from Vitani, feeling her studying him. He shivered again, staring at the dark spots on the ground. He wished it would stop raining, and he wondered why he was shivering so much. It wasn't cold, obviously. He also wondered what Vitani was thinking. He could feel her eyes on him, and grew very self conscious of the many scars marring his pelt, making it ugly.
"I wish you would just tell me, instead of hiding in the shadows all the time...I would understand."
He felt her pushing against him again, and this time he didn't pull away from her. He stared forward at the ground for a moment, then turned to her. "Would you really understand though?" He just didn't know if she would. He desperately wanted to tell her. But how could he be sure that was the right thing to do? The conflicting emotions within made him wince. But, it didn't matter how she'd react, because they had a visitor. A large outlander cub was approaching them, anger flashing in his bright green eyes. He was tense with his teeth bared, and was obviously angry with their intrusion. Valerius flicked his tail over Riora instintivally, protectivelly. He didn't want a fight, but he didn't see a choice, since this cub was already so angry without even finding out who they were. "What do you want, pridelanders? Your kind aren't welcome here." Valerius tensed up, eyes filled with anger. He didn't care anymore that the Outlanders lived a hard life; he felt no pity. This furball was already so pissed off without even hearing a word from them. His lips pulled back in a snarl, but he cut himself off. He didn't want to make too much noise, no reason to get the whole lot of outlanders on their tails. "What, lions aren't allowed here? Because the last time I checked, our kind was lion." Valerius was surprised by Riora's reply, her anger in it. She usually didn't get like that. "Before you assume we're the enemy, maybe you should ask a question or two. Lets not jump to conclusions, here," he spat at the Outlander. He didn't care that it was the Outlander's territory. Like outlanders NEVER came into the Pridelands before. Was it that big a deal, not like they were causing any harm by standing around talking. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Bakari. Growling, the young prince tackled an elephant toe bone, spinning it around his paws. Those claws scrapped against it, but it was barely heard among the other lions and cubs around him. Some of them watched him from the corner of their eyes; envious of his ranking. Of his ranking of prince. Still, this didn't bother him. Being in royalty in the Outlands didn't give him much pleasure. The royalty in the Pridelands is what he wanted; he believed it was... better suited for him. Secretly, he wanted Kovu to be his father, but let's not get into that right now. Things will come in time, shortly.
Other cubs growled and laughed while play fighting, but he was alone. This was mainly because, even though he was still young, he was much bigger than him. Secretly, he was afraid that he'll snap their bones like twigs. The scrawniness in them was unbearable; he hated the sight. All he had was muscle, no fat. Damn the diet, damn the Outlands. Even though this was his "home", he wanted out. Out of this misery and into something bliss. He couldn't complain though; he loved his family, and the cubs here, even if they were somewhat scared of him. That couldn't be helped either; in due time, they'll get used to his very presence.
His prancing and tackling the toe bone was rudely interrupted by growling in the distance. His head cocked, the scars over his right eye blazing, and his crimson hues fiery. Anger was seething in his insides; he didn't like to be disturbed. His orbs caught the familiar figure of Tyra. What was he doi--PRIDELANDERS?! What!? Growling, he leapt to his paws. The claws were still unsheathed, but nicely pointed thanks to that bone. "So, who do we have here?" Chuckling, he advanced forward, standing tall with a cocky grin on his face. "Oh look, it's Kovu's little adopted son Valerius." His tone got sneery and cocky. Those crimson hues turned their attention to Riora. "Riora? The princess? What are you doing out here? Aren't you afraid daddy's gonna punish you?"
The cub laughed, his muscles bulging out since he was tense. Still, his eyes went up and down on Riora, and he couldn't hide the fact that she was Kovu's daughter... Anyway, no time to get into that. Shaking his head, he was only a cub, he couldn't possibly feel love. He was an Outlander; there was no such thing here. "Why don't you run along and get out before daddy comes to save you?"

Jabali Pridelanders... How he hated them. Them and their cushy lives. All the protection and easy life they got did was make them spineless. Spineless and annoying. What a combination. The worst of combinations ever created in this rotten world. How he'd love to see them suffer as he had, to have them have the only ones who cared killed and worse. He'd seen his sister begging for mercy before his father had killed her, his mother cowering before the beast who had imprisoned her mind and soul, a male she had once loved who she had begun to hate and fear. He didn't know where they were ow and if he did he would not follow them until he was bigger, stronger. His father would crush him as he had his sister or worse, as he had before, beat him to the very threshold of death then let him recover just to do it all again. Thinking about his ordeal he glanced at his scarred body and scowled before glaring back to the pridelanders, a new anger and hatred boiling within him, a hatred of how everything he' had was ruined while everything they wanted and needed was served to them on a golden plater, stupid pridelanders. They needed teaching about what life really was for it wasn't as easy for everyone else as it was them. "What, lions aren't allowed here? Because the last time I checked, our kind was lion." A snarl grated in his throat at her words as they added to his anger, always great and usually hidden- they were resered for fools like these that tried to mess with him and the pride. Even if he didn't mingle with the others they, at least, knew how it felt to be an outsider and if they hadn't suffered as much as he they were lucky. At least they weren't wrapped in bubblewrap. "You've no idea, have you princess?" he sneered cruelly, deciding that her trying to be clever was just something to play on. "See, your kind are pridelanders, not real lions but spineless fools. Can't even fight fair, got to have three or four on one, that's your pride." it was true from what he'd been told, what he'd seen before, and he hated them for it. There were a lot of things that made him want to rip the throats from every pridelander for. Most pridelanders had done nothing to aggrivate his hatred, but a few had and he would ever let it go. "Before you assume we're the enemy, maybe you should ask a question or two. Lets not jump to conclusions, here," Jabali pretended to think about it for a moment and then laughed, shaking his head, green eyes gleaming with a dark humor. Did they even know what they were getting themselves into? Man, this was hilarious. Really, what did this strange male want him to do, consider going easy on them? "Before you jump to conclusions you should consider this. You're a pridelander, I'm an outsider and, in my mind, that makes us enemies. What did I do wrong but be born in the wrong place to be put under prosecution by your kind? Wait for it..." he paused dramatically. "Oh, that's right... Nothing." he was abaout to carry on when he saw Bakari moving over and dark smirk crossed his features. Now this was going to be good. "So, who do we have here? Oh look, it's Kovu's little adopted son Valerius." Jabali's eyes lit up. So this little rat that was annoying him was the fake son of Kovu? God, was this funny. The cub was a fake prince. "Riora? The princess? What are you doing out here? Aren't you afraid daddy's gonna punish you?" And the brat he'd called princess was actually the princess. This really was good, he could have fun here... If Bakari didn't keep it all to himself. "Why don't you run along and get out before daddy comes to save you?" Jabali looked to the prince of the outlands with a smirk and turned emeralds onto the intruders again. "Thankyou, Bakari, for answering the only question I might have asked. So what he have here is a princess and a fake prince. How... Lovely of you to visit us." he mocked the pair, tassel flicking, arrogance joining his anger to make for a bad combination... If you were on the recieving end.

Riora
Riora snarled, eyes flashing from the prince to the cub and back again. "Why don't you run along and get out before daddy comes to save you?"
At that, Riora let out a snarl. Although the lion cub that stood before her was stocky and well built, she was confident she could shred him to bits. The other cub as well. She let her lips curl, revealing her sharp white teeth.
"What did I do wrong but be born in the wrong place to be put under prosecution by your kind? Wait for it...Oh right. Nothing."
Riora felt the skin beneath her fur grow hot with anger. "What did you do?" she asked barely above a whisper, seething. "How about insulting us for living somewhere other than this rathole? How about being openly hostile every time we happen accross the border? Maybe if you weren't such morons, you'd see that we're never the ones that look for fights! You are!" she finished, tail lashing and eyes dark. "And as it happens, princey," she spat that word out as if it was a tough bit of prey, "this happens to be two on two."
Riora was mildly surprised at how the anger had risen, and for that matter, how quickly it had left. She knew that she wasn't truly angry at them, although she did want to teach them a lesson for acting like they were so much better than Pridelanders. No, she was angry that they had insulted Valerius that way. The fur on her spine had bristled when Bakari had spat the words "adopted" in his face. And without knowing it, she had let a paw rise in front of her, for the Outlanders to see, and unsheathed it, an open threat. She knew Valerius would probably think that she wasn't capable for such a fight. The princess, unable to take care of herself. Her fur bristled at the thought, and her icy stare hardened. It was true that she didn't usually get like this, but her anger had come on without warning. As she stared at the Outlanders, she knew they'd never be capable of living in the Pridelands. They were complaining over nothing. Unless they learned what one truly meant, they'd forever he scrounging around in the wasteland.

Valerius shook his head at the lion's answer. The Pridelanders didn't all judge by where a lion was born, not to mention his words were contradicting. He was saying that because Valerius and Riora were Pridelanders they were enemies, but complaining he was being prosecuted because he was an Outlander. Kovu wasn't born in the Pridelands, and neither was he. And the Pridelands had taken them both in, he thought, realizing that he and Kovu had that in common. "We don't all judge by where you were born. Was Kovu born a Pridelander? No, he was not. And neither was I. And am I prosecuting you at the moment? No, I am not. All I did was come here and you jump to conclusions, and act all pissy. "So, who do we have here? Oh look, it's Kovu's little adopted son Valerius." Valerius tensed further, and snarled. He unsheathed his ivory claws, just in case. Last time he had encountered the spoiled little prince he had tried to stay calm and collected, but this time Bakari's comments filled him with hate and rage for the brat. He wanted to smack the cocky look off his face, rake his claws along the larger cub's belly. He hated him, hated him. "Yeah, Kovu's adopted son. You're just jealous that I'm respected by Kovu, while you're loathed." He spat at the Bakari. He knew it wasn't true, but maybe it would strike a nerve or something. Really, what Outlander didn't sometimes wish to be a Pridelander at heart? Prey was more common, the lives were better...no matter how much they denied it, their hate was due to jealousy. And to think, they'd had the change to live in the Pridelands, but they gave it up! "Riora? The princess? What are you doing out here? Aren't you afraid daddy's gonna punish you? Why don't you run along and get out before daddy comes to save you?" Valerius held in a snort; this stupid furball didn't know anything about Riora, how she always wanted adventures, always got into trouble with him. And he really thought she'd be scared? Ha, yeah right. He noticed the prince's eyes taking in Riora, but didn't think anything of it, figuring he was just trying to size up the 'enemy'. He heard Riora's snarl, somewhat shocked by her anger. She was usually the calm, level headed one. He heard he angry, lashing words. Her paw lay in front of her, unsheathed, a threat to them. And he knew she meant it. When she was angry, she was really angry. And he didn't doubt she could fight. Kovu probably taught her all kinds of stuff in those hours they spent together. She probably knew more than he did. All he knew came from watching the lionesses. *Status: Completed *Words: five-hundred-six *Involved: Riora, Bakari, and Jabali *Other: AUGH I HATE BAKARI. Jabali Damn these pridelanders, if they hadn't shown up he could have been practicing his fighting skills or killing the young crocs in the river or stalking small prey inpridelands but no, they had to show up. They had to ruin everything. pridelanders always wanted to ruin everything and him, he hated it. He hated them because they hated him and they hated him because he was born in this rat-hole. Why had he been born here? He didn't know the answer but he wished things had worked out differently. Oh yes, the things which had happened to him wouldn't have happened if he were a pridelander. Someone would have seen it, someone would have stopped his father, and the thought just bolstered his hate for them. He should have been born there and he blamed them, them and their rotten families. Had the princess rat just called him princey? He wasn't royalty. Damn it, if he was the prince none of this would have happened to him, he'd still have his family. But that wasn't how it was, things had been so much different and if things had been different he'd have been different. He wouldn't have believed that everyone was out to get him, he wouldn't have been so loyal to the outsiders and hostile to the pridelanders. Hell, he may even have escaped this place but now? No, he couldn't leave. If he left he would only be faced with trouble. His father would find him, beat him to the brink of death once more and laugh as he recovered just so he could do it again and damn this princess if she carried on he'd kill her. He glanced to Bakari and back, lips curling. "It wasn't when I spoke, when I spoke their were two of you and one of me. Which, by the way, makes you look dumb." he shrugged. "And fighting is the only way to survive out here where parents turn against cubs in the blink of an eye. Why do I start fights? Because if I didn't I'd never be ready to take on my dad were he to show up ad then I'd have to go through hell again. Surely you wouldn't wish that on anyone?" He'd never told anyone what it was that had driven him away from others before, not even the royals of his pride had known and now he'd told two strangers and Bakari. In a way it felt good to have it off his chest but in a way he was worried about how they, especially Bakari, would react. These pridelanders could do what they wanted, Bakari was a threat. "Kovu... Kovu is different. They were going to reject him, it was only because of Kiara..." he shut up for a moment. "What does it matter? You two were lucky, you had someone to save you when you needed it."

One day when you're big & strongyou will be a king - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -"Thank you, Bakari, for answering the only question I might have asked. So what he have here is a princess and a fake prince. How... Lovely of you to visit us."
Chuckling, the young prince nodded towards his fellow pride member, well, pride cub. "Anytime, anytime. You know I got your back, Jabali." His tone of voice went from menacing to cool and calm. You can say he's a complete jerk, but let's keep in mind, he's the PRINCE of the OUTLANDS. Yes, it's going to be like that. He's going to have that slight annoying-too-cocky attitude/personality, but you have to deal with it for now.
The way Riora growled made the prince burst out laughing. "Awh. You have daddy's attitude." Bakari took a few steps forward, his crimson eyes burning fiercely. "Oh, I'm ssooo scared. Right, Jabali? Doesn't she just want you to shiver in your fur?" Another laugh came from him, and one eyebrow has now risen. His eyes got cocky-like, and his stance was tall, much like Kovu when he was a cub. You see, when Riora spoke, everything just went through him. Okay, that's not true. He took in her words, and half of him agreed with her. However, the lust that was thrown into him since birth came over, and he got somewhat dark again.
Now his attention turned to that pathetic adopted son. Why was he so special, anyway? Because Kovu found him, took him home and that automatically made him prince? HA! Screw that. If he was Kovu, he'd let Valerius rot in the Outlands. Kovu should've anyway; he's not much of a lion.
"Yeah, Kovu's adopted son. You're just jealous that I'm respected by Kovu, while you're loathed."
"And you actually think I care about what Kovu thinks? Wow. Pridelanders are simple-minded." Those crimson hues bore into Valerius, like he was searching out his soul to tear it apart piece by piece. The spat from Valerius didn't mind him in the least; Bakari knew that deep down, Valerius felt like he was more of an Outcast, more like an Outlander. However, he won't admit to such a thing on his own. Maybe it'll take a little more peer pressure to admit it. Maybe Kovu can get it out of him. "It wasn't when I spoke, when I spoke their were two of you and one of me. Which, by the way, makes you look dumb. And fighting is the only way to survive out here where parents turn against cubs in the blink of an eye. Why do I start fights? Because if I didn't I'd never be ready to take on my dad were he to show up ad then I'd have to go through hell again. Surely you wouldn't wish that on anyone?" Those words from Jabali struck him in such... a way. Maybe the dark prince was in awe. The young lion never knew the pain that was in the cub, but after all, all Outlanders have pain. Hidden scars that lie within. The prince stayed silent, but his glance went from Jabali to Riora. A low growl escaped him, and his claws unsheathed. Not because of Jabali's words, but because he wanted the two termites in front of him gone.[/blockquote][/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS // finished, unfinished ?
