Valerius bowed his head and took a sip of water from the watering hole. He was alone, he couldn't see anyone around. Good. He didn't want anyone around. He needed time to think about everything.
He walked over to a nearby tree, and laid down. It was noon, and the sun was at it's highest, therefore the African lands were at their hottest. The shade that the tree cast covered him, keeping him cool. He closed his eyes, enjoying the heat.
He thought about what had just happened with Nuka. He couldn't drop his awareness like that ever again, even just for a moment. He needed to be alert, and he couldn't let his guard down. While thinking of Nuka, he thought of why he shouldn't be thinking of Nuka. Then about why he shouldn't be thinking about not thinking about Nuka. And that continued on, like a lion anxiety generator. Eventually he shook his head and gave up. So he was thinking about Nuka, so what. That didn't mean anything. He didn't have to act on his thoughts, so they made no difference.
He did however, have to act on his thoughts about Kovu. He felt like shit, he felt horribly guilty for not taking Kovu's side. He wished he could go back and time and change what how he'd reacted, so he wouldn't disappoint Kovu yet again. He wished he could find Kovu, but he was worried that Kovu wouldn't forgive him. That he'd just walk away again. He hadn't realized how much Kovu's opinion mattered to him until he turned away and left.
It was no wonder why Kovu chose Riora to become the leader over Valerius. "Of course he would choose Riora...Riora is perfect, she never screws up. She's always the perfect little daughter, while I'm just the crazy messed up adopted son. He'd probably choose anyone in the whole Pride over him. I'm just one disappointment after another, I'm sure. Maybe he could go see Rafiki...he'd never gone before, but everyone said that Rafiki could help you solve all your problems. But he was hesitant to go visit some crazy monkey. He just wanted Kovu, right now.

Kovu, Kingx] The large male lion padded over a fallen tree, watching the animals go by. Zebras, antelopes, meerkats, all of them. A small smirk grew on him, proud of this whole thing. Proud of being here. Kovu stopped and stretched his muscles out, a yawn escaping him. It sounded more like a loud roar than a yawn, but hey, cut him some slack. With a few clicks of his tongue, his hues peered over to the waterhole, and landed on his adopted son, Valerius.
Cocking his head a bit to the side, he wondered why he wasn't out watching the lionesses hunt of playing with Riora. Shrugging a bit to himself, he slowly padded up to him, scratching the soil with his claws a bit. It just gave out a warning that he was there. It's not like he was going to run up and scare him. That's just pathetic. His ears twitched as he walked up to the tree Valerius was laying under. The sunlight beat down on his dark fur, bristling it a bit. He figured what to say. Should he say hello? No. That's too corny. "Kind of hot out today, huh?" His voice wasn't mocking, or intimidating. It was soft, gentle, like a feather.
With a steady pace, he sat down, not too close to Valerius but close enough to give him some sort of comfort. Those emerald orbs turned their attention towards him, then towards the sky. He watched the birds soar past them, chirping happily in the Lands. He could hear the water rippling in the waterhole, and the other animals taking cautious sips. That tail of his flicked from side to side, happy to be in the company of his son. His son.

Valerius heard Kovu before he saw him. At the sound of Kovu's 'yawn', his ears perked forward and his fur stood up, waiting for whoever made the noise to grow closer. He heard the animal's claws against the dry African soil.
He moved his eyes, looking out his peripheral vision, to see the creature behind him without turning his head. He shouldn't have been surprised to see Kovu's huge form. His fur smoothed back down and his ears returned to their normal position.
"Kind of hot out today, huh?"
Kovu's voice didn't sound irritated or angry, it just sounded calm. His eyes turned towards him, looking him over. He didn't look angry either. In fact..he looked somewhat happy. Maybe he wasn't angry at the Nuka thing after all. He couldn't decide whether or not he should still apologize.
"Yeah..." He couldn't think of anything else to say. What was he supposed to say to that when he had so many other things on his mind?
