Vitani Vitani lay in the sun, soaking up the juicy rays that shone down. For once, she wasn't resenting the heat; after a small rinse in the waterhole, it felt good on her fur. She purred and squirmed in the brush and sand, letting it scratch her back. Suddenly, a scent drifted from downwind. Vitani looked up from her lazy position; two figures stood on the horizon, creeping in from what little shelter they had. She stood, interested. They seemed to be sneaking in...Were they outlanders? Most likely; They came from the direction, whereas most loners, if any, came from the north. Vitani's eyes narrowed and she lashed her tail in anger. She didn't think she could take on the two on her own, however. But she'd try.

Kamau crept through the tall savannah grass as low as she could, going between the foliage as often as she could so as not to stir the grass. She glanced behind her, hoping to see her cute little comrade following suit. Icy orbs peered above her cover, and she saw Vitani. Her nose wrinkled, her ears pinned to her head, but she stayed silent - what's this? Vitani was looking around. Damnit. That traitor. That gullible, misled, Pridelander-paw-kissing idiot. I ought to teach her a lesson about forgetting where you've come from. Kamau ducked her head down to think for a moment and then looked back over her shoulder yet again, protective of her prince.

Bakari. The prince slowly crept in the tall grass, trying hard not to laugh. This was fun, stalking in the Pridelands. He nodded towards Kamau when she checked to see if he was following him. Of course he was; he didn't want to miss out on this chance. This chance to meet Kovu, this chance to kill Riora or Valerius. However, his wonderful thoughts ended when he saw Kamau's ears pin against her head. Something is wrong, he thought, extremely curious. He saw her check him again, and he gave her a lion smirk. His paws led him beside the lioness, and his orbs peeked over to who she was glaring at. VITANI! The cub growled lowly, his muscles getting more bulky than they already were. The fur on his back was bristling, and he tried to calm down. His claws were unsheathed, ready to strike anything in its path. Still, he kept his head ducked, but something struck him. Why? Why hide here, waiting to be caught? The brain-washed lioness already saw them, so why be afraid? However, even if he was thinking this, he stayed where he was, afraid that he might get KAmau seriously injured if he sprang out.

Vitani Vitani padded closer, narrowing her eyes. One of the Outlanders was smaller than the other. A cub? She snorted. She probably couldn't take on two fully grown lions, but a cub? No match. She stalked towards them, tail lashing back and forth in anger. What were they doing in the Pridelands? And furthermore, what was a cub doing with the other lion? As she got closer, Vitani could see it was Kamau, that stupid smirk plastered onto her face. As if she think she can beat me, Vitani thought, and snorted in contempt. The cub was Bakari, prince of the Outlands. Oh? she thought. And what's this? She rolled her eyes to the heavens. Kamau could be so dumb sometimes. Bringing the prince to the very heart of enemy land? Ridiculous. Vitani leapt out from the shadows of the waking sun and snarled. "What are you doing in the Pridelands? Have you suddenly decided that boundaries don't exist anymore?" She circled them, hoping to intimidate them. She eyed the prince. "Did daddy say you could go on this little trip?"

Kamau snarled and instinctively stepped between Vitani and her prince. "I'm showing Bakari his future territory. What are you doing in the Pridelands, traitor?" It truly was a dumb idea to bring Bakari out to the Pridelands, but nobody taught Kamau any logic or strategy; she spent her cubhood with the hyenas.
Her fur prickled and her weapons retracted, and her glare was fixed intently on Vitani's every move. The lioness's muscles gave a ripple and she stalked around her former friend, as long as the prince stayed behind her. Memories came back; years and years ago, this lioness had been her younger friend. They'd play pranks on Nuka, they'd fight over carcasses. What had become of them?

Valerius was walking to the Waterhole, to get a drink on the hot day. His tail flicked from side to side lazily, as he enjoyed the heat of the dry season. His ears pricked up as he saw and heard the other lions.
He came a bit closer, seeing their faces. He first saw Vitani, his aunt, first. He then noticed the lioness he'd never seen before. Last, he saw the Prince of the Outlands, and he hissed.
His fur bristled and he came closer to them all. "And what do you think you are doing here, prince? he said, spitting. Sure, he may invite outlanders into his home, but these were here uninvited, and that was unacceptable. Bakari was big for his age, and the unknown lioness was full grown, but he could get Kovu if he really needed to. And he could get more member of his pride. He wasn't scared, not at all.

Bakari. The dark fur on him prickled when the lousy traitor came here. A furball. A nasty ol' bi--. A loud growl formed in his throat; Vitani was dismissing the fact that he was large. Because of the intensive training he was receiving, he was quite bigger than Kovu when he was a cub, or so every lion tells him. "Actually, my father has nothing to do with this. He does want you and your little niece killed, though. I'd be happy to do it for him." Another growl, and his claws retracted in and out of his paws. The circling didn't bother him at all; the lionesses back home tried that trick. Ohhh. He's ssoooo scared. His dark hues watched Kamau go in front of him from Vitani, and he growled at her. With a quick movement, he side-stepped, and stood beside her. However, his right paw was in front of the lioness, showing some protection. He'd rather be killed than her; she was a good addition to the pack, and his mother and father needed her dearly. The prince was large for a cub; he could handle himself, or so he thought. The sound of Valerius' voice pissed him off. A rather loud growl escaped him, and his fur bristled more. "At least I'm a true prince. You are nothing in the Pridelands. Poor Kovu can't save you now." A lion smirk spread across his muzzle, and a rumble of laughter was deep in his throat. He wanted to rip him to pieces. All of the training he received was finally paid off. Maybe they'll run off and get back-up. What a bunch of termites.

Vitani Vitani heard Valerius padding up to her side and hissed in annoyance. This wasn't a cub's fight. She slid down to his side and hissed in his ear, "Don't fight unless you really, really have to. Don't leap unless he leaps." She stood and snarled at Kamau. "Of course," she murmured. "That doesn't go for me." She roared and leapt at Kamau, slashing at the tangle of fur that was her underbelly. She pinned her down and pushed her face an inch away from Kamau's and spat. "Get out of here."

Kamau was furious; so furious she couldn't even feel the gash on her underbelly. She wiped the spit off of her face with the back of her paw abruptly, before taking a swing at Vitani's face. Wait - no. What's this? Was she hesitating?
The lioness looked her old friend in the eyes for a moment, running over then to now in her head. "Who are you to tell me to go?" Her nose crinkled, and in a swift movement, she made an attempt to dig her protracted claws into Vitani's back while rolling on top of her with a snarl. "What has become of you, Vitani? You're brainwashed. You've changed." The claws would then drag down the other lioness' back quickly, before they're retracted, the harmless paw pushing her away as Kamau stood. She was torn. She glanced at Bakari, and then at Valerius; her eyes narrowed. I could fight, or I could be a coward and let my past interfere with the future of our pride. What are you gonna do, Hyena Girl?
KIZKITZA was standing somewhere not too far in the distance. She shook her head and wandered off.

Vitani Vitani stood, paw raised, seeming to be unable to strike her former friend. She saw a glint of indecision in Kamau's eyes and was startled to find that same emotion in her. She put her paw down and forced her fur to lie flat, sighing. She was more confused than ever. She knew she used to be Kamau's friend; memories of them playing happily together began to flood her mind. Obviously Kamau couldn't find herself able to hurt Vitani, and Vitani felt the same. However, loyalty to her brother forced her to push away the distant memories and old alliances and look at Kamau the way the others did; As an enemy. She narrowed her eyes at the Outlander. Whatever their past, Kamau was here for a reason, and she wanted to know exactly what it was. "Why are you here?"

"I told you," Kamau's voice was much calmer, "I'm showing Bakari what may someday be his. Once all of this is over, you know." That was a white lie, but an undetectable one. Kamau was a good actress. Sure, he was probably scoping the Pridelands for his own as they spoke, but the two had different intentions. She glanced at the cubs, and thought for a moment. Her tune changed. "I wanted to apologize to you, Vitani." A paw dragged along in the dirt. "Maybe... we could get along again."
There was a sparkle in her icy eyes that suggested that she really meant it. Maybe she did. She certainly missed the good old days. But for now, she tried to capture the gaze of Bakari for a moment, to see if he caught her drift here.

Valerius heard Vitani's hiss of annoyance, and bristled further. Vitani was his aunt. She wasn't supposed to be annoyed by him!
"Don't fight unless you really, really have to. Don't leap unless he leaps." Well DUH. He knew that. He wasn't a fan of fighting, and obviously he wasn't going to jump into any fight. He didn't want to fight at all, and he kind of wished Kovu was there, regardless of whether or not that made him seem weak. If Kovu was there, they'd all just go away and it'd be fine. He wasn't a fan of confrontation, but whatever happened happened.
"He does want you and your little niece killed, though. I'd be happy to do it for him." Valerius snarled at Bakari's words. He'd at first thought that maybe Bakari wasn't that bad, when he first met him in the Outlands. Yeah, he was callous and churlish, but so were a lot of people. He'd heard that Kovu was the same way when he was younger. That doesn't mean someone can't change and become nicer. But now, Bakari was threatening his aunt, and if he hurt her, Valerius wouldn't be happy, and he wouldn't try avoiding a fight.
Valerius saw Vitani slash at the lionesses's underbelly, and pin her down. Then he saw the lioness go to slash at his aunt's face, and he was about to launch at her, but he saw her hesitiation. She was unsure.
"What has become of you, Vitani? You're brainwashed. You've changed."
Ahh, so Vitani had known this lioness when she'd been an Outlander. They must have been old friends, or atleast somewhat close. Valerius suddenly wondered what Vitani was like when she was an Outlander. He knew she'd been pretty young. He wondered if it was hard for her to leave her mother and everyone, and he wondered if she ever felt a tinge of regret for leaving.
"I wanted to apologize to you, Vitani. Maybe... we could get along again."
"Oh shit..Bakari's not going to be okay with that." was Valerius's first thought. He wondered what Vitani was going to do, and what Bakari was going to do. If his father, the King of the Outlands, found out about that, there'd be hell for both of them to pay. But it could be useful for his aunt to have a friend again in the Outlands, and it might even make her happy to have her old friend back.

Vitani Vitani stared at Kamau, shocked. Get along again? What did that even mean to her? They were from different prides, for God's sake. How could they get along? And when she was so obviously here to either invade them or kill one of them? Unconsciously, Vitani took a step in front of Valerius in case it was a trap to let her guard down. No matter what, she wasn't going to be tricked by Kamau. Her face took her back to a memory, before the division, when things were simple.. ***
Hiding behind a termite mound, tail swishing back and forth in excitement with Kamau behind her. Nuka, like always, madly scratching behind his ear, trying to rid himself of his fleas. Kamau let out a giggle and flicked her tail, motioning Vitani to come closer. They crept out into the shadows and pounced.
"Surprise!"
Nuka sat up with a jolt and yowled as the two cubs toppled him over in a flurry of fur and wildly flailing paws.
*** She shook herself and then remembered the fight, the one that had changed her forever. ***
Kamau snarled at Vitani, clearly showing her distaste for the now adult lioness; and Pridelander.
"Go home," she said, spitting on the ground just in front of Vitani's paws. "Home to your Pridelands." She narrowed her eyes, disintegrating the last of their friendship as she turned and stalked over to her side of the border.
***
So which did she believe? She looked at Kamau, wanting to accept her friendship, but afraid of what it might mean. "Okay."
